What is Abdominal Mesothelioma?
Peritoneal Mesothelioma is often referred to as abdominal mesothelioma.
In this form of cancer, mesothelioma has spread to the abdominal
area or abdomen. Malignant abdominal mesotheliom is very rare.
There are less than 1,000 new cases in Canada and the United States
per year. Abdominal mesothelioma makes up only 30% of all mesothelioma
cancer cases.

Peritoneal mesotheliom is a cancer affecting the abdominal
lining or peritoneum which supports and protects organs
of the abdomen. Cells in the lining of the abdominal region
secrete fluid that allows organs to brush up against one
another. Abdominal mesothelioma cancer causes the abdomen
to secrete too much fluid.
Although very rare, there have been many clinical studies
done on abdominal mesothelioma. Please consult your physician
for the next course of action if you think you have abdominal
mesothelioma. |
