Symptoms of Asbestos

What are the common asbestos exposure symptoms?
Asbestos is a crystal-like substance that has been used in construction, ship building, automotive industry and other manufacturing industries for almost a hundred years. Although it looks harmless, asbestos is a very deadly disease. Asbestos exposure has resulted in many serious illnesses due to the asbestos symptoms being quite mild.

Initial symptoms are quite close to other more common diseases, and causes confusion among physicians not adequately trained in asbestos exposure. Some of the early asbestos symptoms include:
- Shortness of breath-increases over time
- Coughing
- Increased sputum
- Weight loss
- Chest pain
- Hoarseness
- Coughing up blood

It is important to note that asbestos symptoms related to lung diseases may not show up until too late. Even if you or your loved ones do not see any early asbestos symptoms, it does not mean that you have not contracted an asbestos disease.

Please don’t make the assumption and get tested for asbestos symptoms today.

Many patients actually do not show many or even any of the above asbestos symptoms. Unfortunately, early detection signals are not conclusive. Therefore, many physicians advise that if you have been working with asbestos material at the workplace, it is best for you to get tested at a clinic.

Approximately 3,000 cases of asbestos poisoning are diagnosed each year. Most of these involve the physician seeing late asbestos symptoms. Unfortunately, there are many more victims who have no asbestos symptoms and will eventually pass away because of this.

The other problem with asbestos symptoms is the long latency period of the disease. It takes anywhere from a few years to 40 years before any asbestos symptoms show up. By then, it is usually too late for many people.
