What is vermiculte asbestos and how is this asbestos
dangerous?
Vermiculite mineral has been used in insulation materials for buildings
and homes. Vermiculite that contains asbestos is termed vermiculite
asbestos. This type of asbestos is very hazardous. The majority
of vermiculite was mined in Montana between the early 1900s to 1975.
Unfortunately, a huge portion of the vermiculite mined here was
vermiculite asbestos.
Although asbestos is harmful, it is sealed and stored properly,
it is not hazardous. The danger of vermiculite asbestos is when
asbestos fibers become airborne through damaged or deteriorating

In most cases, vermiculite asbestos in homes and work
buildings are safe as none of the asbestos fibers are exposed
or damaged. There is actually very small amounts of asbestos
in vermiculite. Asbestos or asbestos containing products like
vermiculite asbestos are deadly if they are disturbed.
For the most part, vermiculite asbestos in older homes are
ok unless damaged.
Although asbestos has been linked to many life threatening
diseases, vermiculite asbestos is still in use. However, precautionary
measures have been implemented so that vermiculite asbestos
is controlled and monitored.
